Spectacular presence and success of igm at the Beijing Welding and Cutting 2009 in Shanghai from June 2nd - 5th, 2009

Contrary to expectations of a recession, the world second largest exhibition “Beijing Welding and Cutting” showed an enormous response from the industry and opinion leaders.

igm displayed its eye-catching products on a spacious 210 m² large booth and the main attraction was the compact robot welding cell, type RSX 502.

This unique system is featuring 2 L-shaped manipulators with a payload of 500 kg each, assembled to a common base, served by the welding robot RTi330 mounted to a rotating arm in the center of the both manipulators. Thus the floor space required for the whole arrangement amounts to only 25 m².

The robot displayed was equipped with our latest generation of igm laser camera iCAM. This ultra compact laser sensor for seam tracking has been developed by igm and is fully integrated into the robot control, meaning that it is programmed just by means of the igm teach pendant without any additional PC or controller. The display of the teach pendant provides the operator with all information about the status of the camera, shows the camera signal in real time even as a grey value picture, and is permanently logging all signals recorded.

Easy programming of igm robot systems has been demonstrated with the successful software tool “offline teaching”. The operator is using the original teach pendant K5 for teaching the robot program on the PC. The PC screen displays the overall system including the positioning of work pieces, robots, and manipulators in real time. The software assists the programmer with several features: it recommends to him the optimised path direction or different welding torch adjustments possible for a given weld, or it warns him of collisions with the workpiece or with system components.

igm is proud to report, that the displayed robot system has been sold directly on the booth to one of the important Chinese construction equipment manufacturers.
